To share or not to share the road

On 10th street, obviously we are not sharing.

The irony of this sign that has been mowed down cracks me up.

Bonus nerdiness: The two lovely folks in the picture, are some transit counterparts from LA who I had the opportunity to hang out with on Friday. Both studied transit planning and Sirinya writes for The Source, a blog about, you guessed it, transit! O the awesomeness of transit geekery, when we travel, we seek out other nerds for transit adventures and find mishaps like these we have to photograph.

This is hilarious but unfortunately it is not that unusual. The sidewalks, bike lanes, and transit in Atlanta really need work. Most people would agree on that, but who is willing to do something about it? I believe that more investment in this infrastructure will help, but what if you don’t work for DOT, the City of Atlanta, an investor, etc? What can I do to make Atlanta more walkable, transit friendly, and more sustainable? Remember, one person can make a difference. It’s that simple. Try walking or taking the bus down 10th Street. Don’t make excuses. Change takes work and it takes sacrifice. Refuse to drive unless it is completely and utterly necessary. Make walking and transit part of your daily routine! It’s healthy and it contributes to change. Show our governing bodies, Atlanta developers, and the transit naysayers that we want change. We want to be able to walk down 10th Street.
