Brr it’s cold!

Yea, I’m whiney. And before you folks in DC and New York and, you know, the general north, start giving me a hard time about being a pussy, I moved to the south for a reason. And that reason is because I don’t particularly care for it when it’s freezing. I can handle the cold as long as there is snow, but just plan cold? It’s a crime against nature.

The biggest downside of public transit for me is winter. Waiting on the bus sucks. Waiting for a train on an open platform sucks. Bundling up and then getting on a hot crowded bus, still sucking. At least it gives me a good excuse to invest in adorable winer attire, such as boots and scarves and gloves and, my all time favorite, leg warmers. Last year I asked my parents for a big, puffy, down coat for Christmas. They thought, as someone who lived in Georgia, that I was nuts. Why would i need that? I thought, “bus stop.” Sadly, though, I lost my favorite scarf, so now I’m in search of another. Or I’m going to have to figure out how to make one…

But you know what sucks worse, cycling in the winter. As much as I love my bike, you will not see me riding it until it the temperature gets above 50 degrees. I am not about some extended winter exposure, I am not that hard core.

How do y’all deal with the cold?

That is so true about biking – it seems MUCH colder than walking, so I also won’t be getting on the bike unless the temperature hits at least 45 or so. My problem is my face – short of wearing a burqa or ski mask (somehow, I don’t think that’s a good idea) not sure what will keep it warm!

I wear a full face mask when I bike to work. At night, it sorta freaks people out. Not sure why. It’s not like there’s anything unusual about a guy wearing a black mask at night in Baltimore.
