Minneapolis Bus Stops Temporarily Closed Due to Crime
The stops, closed on September 13th, will be reopened for service on October 13th, and I have been meaning to write about this for weeks! But hey, better late than having your stop closed.
I went to Minneapolis last year to accompany Bus Nerd on a business trip, for which I had to pay out of pocket. (Boo, benefits.) It was… cold. The light rail was nice. The women I worked for at the time were from Minneapolis, and basically told me not to go to the north side past downtown. Fair enough.
So, I have no personal experience with the northside neighborhood that’s been so plagued by crime that bus service needed to be halted in order to suss out those that are using the common people’s gathering place as an excuse for their wheeling and dealing.
Despite inconveniencing riders for a month,Metro Transit cares about the people. It’s a policy of the authority to comply with any stop closure requests made by police in instances like these. What the cops are hoping will happen here is more or less monitoring and stings on people who now have no reason to be at the closed bus stop. They do this relatively frequently, so I imagine they get some results out of it, however, I have to wonder about the stupidity of the person who doesn’t realize that the stop is closed and that his clients should just meet him around the corner.
And I giggle at this reporter being named Robert Moses.
