The $50 billion plan

September 7, 2010

Yesterday Obama announced a new comprehensive infrastructure plan to the tune of $50 billion. I suppose this was some sort of labor day stunt, the plan would be a boon to the economy and create jobs, while boosting USinfrastructure, which apparently falls behind our peers.

Great. Except Obama stated that this includes roads. An unbelievable amount of roads.

“Over the next six years, we are going to rebuild 150,000 miles of our roads – enough to circle the world six times”

Granted the plan does include rail, but only 4,000 miles, enough to stretch from coast-to-coast. This really disturbs me. Haven’t we learned that we need better solutions than more pavement yet? I know we need some roads, but 150,000 miles compared to 4,000? Tsk tsk.
