Your MARTA inquires

September 1, 2010

Our blogging platform keeps track of the Google search terms that people use when finding us.  I think these are incredibly interesting and read them daily.  Some of them are actually really good questions, that there aren’t really answers for here.  But they end up here anyways, so I’m going to answer them!  Yay Q & A!!!

? Fastest speed of the MARTA train: The fastest speed a MARTA train will go is 70 mph on the longest stretches, like between Lindbergh and Arts Center. Apparently the minimum speed is 0. One likes to be mean to me.

? Scooter on MARTA train: I’m going to go with no on this one.

? Packing for Amtrak: Each passenger is allowed two carry-on bags and three checked bags. Bags can weigh no more than 50 pounds a piece. You must check bags at least 30 minutes prior to departure and not all stations have checked baggage. Of course there’s no sort of security screening and you can have as much liquids as you want, including bringing your own drinks. I have also found that they don’t really count bags, as long as you’re not coming in with 20; I made it on for my cross country trip with four, one suitcase, two totes, and a purse. To find out more, go to Amtrak’s website.

? Foursquare MARTA bus: MARTA buses actually aren’t very good at games, they are clumsy and cumbersome and it really hurts their feelings if you ask them to play. They got picked on a lot in school. But you can search for your bus route of the Foursquare app for smart phones and add it if it’s not there. I added the Number 2!

? Is there a transit system for Clayton County? No, not anymore. CTran shut it’s doors in March and for the time being, there will be no more transit service in Clayton County, Georgia. Some jitney services have sprung up, though, most notably QuickTransit.

? F*ck 2010 constitution: No, thank you. I don’t want paper cuts down there. I’m going to say this is a phrase we’ve never used, beats me why it got you here.

? MARTA weekday vs. weekend ridership: Average rail station weekday entries for FY09 (that’s fiscal year) are 201,363, 122,663 on Saturdays, and 85,603 on Sundays.

? Is MARTA braves shuttle still running? Yes, through this season. That includes the playoffs, if they make it to them. This service is part of the cuts this fall, so it won’t be running next season.

? MARTA train set: There doesn’t seem to have ever been a MARTA train set, but I think there should be, and that I should have one. There are MARTA die cast buses around.

? Abandoned MARTA tunnels: There are some, which were built as provisions for later system extensions. I’m not supposed to know about these, which means it is now my mission to find out all I can.

? Cobb County Transit Authority: Wrong. Cobb Community Transit. I thought it was county as well, but where did y’all get authority from? Have you ever seen a CCTA bus?

? MARTA transit info feed: I don’t think MARTA eats info. But the @MARTAmarketing Twitter account is a great place to learn about delays, service announcements, etc.

Hilarious. I once got a hit on my blog from a “german foot fetish” search. I’m still not sure how.
