Today’s history lesson

Have you ever wondered why there is a center platform at Five Points and why its the only station that the trains open on both sides?  When the planners were designing MARTA over 30 years ago they planned for the system to have the capacity to run trains every 90 seconds.  If this were the case, Five Points would need double platforms to handle the demand so the planners lobbied for this layout.

The system has now been running for 31 years and we’re going backwards.  On September 25th the trains will be pushed back to 20 min intervals.  Makes you wonder, doesn’t it?

Actually, Lindbergh Center Station opens on both sides going Northbound.

But yes, it does suck how far we have not come with MARTA. We should look like DC’s system by now.

    Great site BTW!
